Q> what is the difference between MP3 & WAV?
A>A WAV file is a digital reproduction of an analog waveform (sound) in its uncompressed form. An mp3 is a compression scheme applied to that audio file which makes smaller files that are easier to transfer from one computer to the next. By taking out frequencies that are beyond our hearing range an average WAV file (44.1kHz 16-bit stereo, the same quality as an audio CD and the format of the audio available on Stompy) can be compressed into a quality 320kbps mp3 at a sixth of the size of the original size. This kind of reduction has major benefits when transferring files over the Internet and is perfect for your iPod or car stereo. At Stompy, we argue that mp3s are not "fat enough" for playing on large sound systems like those in clubs, where dj's require a booming, bodacious sound.

Q>how long does it take to download music files?
A> There are two main variables that will affect your download time. The first is connection speed and the second is file size. To find out how long it will take you to download your music, first find out your connection speed (such as 56kbps, DSL, etc.), then find out how large the file you want to download is. In general, fast connections and smaller files result in faster downloads. Slow connections and large files will result in slower downloads. For a general comparison, check out the table below for some average examples. We use a simple method to figure the download time: File size ÷ Internet connection = time of download

Internet Connection file size download time 56K dial up modem 70M Audio file (10M per minute) 20 minutes 56K dial up modem 7M mp3 file (1M per minute) 2 minutes 700K DSL Line 70M Audio file 1.5 minutes 700K DSL Line 7M mp3 file 10 Seconds

Q>how do I place an order? A>To place an order first you would collect all the items and or music you want to purchase by checking the add checkbox and selecting the add to crate button. The items and or music is then placed in the crate section and when you are ready to buy you then need to make a few choices and proceed to checkout. If you have music in your crate you need to choose what format you want to purchase: Audio (WAVE/AIFF) or MP3.

Q>what happens if I wasn't able to complete the download?
A> Each time a piece of music is bought the customer will have access to that music file until the complete file has been transferred to them. This means that if you are interrupted in the middle of a download you will be able to go back to that file to download completely. This is all done seamlessly by our system. In some cases a user will be cut off from continuing their download. If this happens please send us an email and we will respond promptly.

Q> iTunes will not open, play or burn some .wav's I have downloaded.
A> For reasons we don't know iTunes is not allowing users to add some .wav files to their library. iTunes recognizes the files but can't add them to the library.

We have done some tests and this is the remedy we have come up with. If you simply convert the .wav file (Microsofts audio platform) to .aif (Apples audio platform) then iTunes will recognize the file and can import it for playback and burning.

There is no sound quality loss when converting. They are essentially the exact same thing. All other programs we have used have been able to play and convert the wav file iTunes has a problem with. There is nothing wrong with the wav file. If you don't have a program that allows you to do this you can do a search on the web for "audio convert free software wav to aif" + "Mac" or "PC" (depending on which platform you have). For PC users we have found a program called "Switch 1.04 to do the trick. the free version will do the necessary conversion. If you want more features out of Switch you can purchase an upgrade for a few bucks more but the free version will do the .wav to .aif conversion. Here is a link to the download page for switch..

If you are a MAC user and come across a free program that will do the conversion then please let us know about it. Send us and email to info@stompy.com
